Another Take on Practicing Gratitude

We all know the importance of feeling grateful.  Maybe we practice gratitude every morning or as we navigate our daily lives.   I do this too.  But while out on a run training for the Boston Marathon, I was listening to some training calls and heard a colleague say something that literally stopped me in my tracks.

Hearing this immediately made me realize that even when I set the intention to be mindful with my gratitude, I still have so much room to improve.

A large component of our Network Marketing business is self-empowerment.  Immersing myself in self-development training re-instilled intentional gratitude in my daily life as it does for many. Often the growth we experience is one of the greatest blessings in what we do.

And it’s also really easy to get caught up in the action:  the to-dos, the checklist, that it can be easy to kind of let it fall by the wayside.

Think about it – how would it feel if you woke up today with only what you expressed gratitude for yesterday?

Let’s take a challenge together:  Let’s make a real effort to express gratitude every single day.   Even on our toughest days, there is always something to be grateful for.  Grab a pen and paper, and write 100 gratitudes, as soon as you’re finished reading this!!   Can you do it?   Please comment on this blog post when you do!  I’d love to give you an online high five!  Review your list and add to it often.

What you focus on, you find.

When you find yourself in a bad mood, and focusing on the things that are going wrong, try to catch yourself.  Reframe and focus on the positive.  Focus on the good that can come out of this “bad” situation.   Where your focus goes, energy flows, right?

Example of how you can reframe with gratitude

I like to do my runs early in the morning so that my workouts don’t impact my kids’ days much.  I’ll set my alarm sometimes as early as 4:45/5:00 am.  I’m not really what you’d call a “morning person,” so when that alarm sounds, it’s not the best feeling.  I’m sure like almost anyone, I  want to keep sleeping…  I feel a little cranky.  But when I remember to reframe and think, “I’m so grateful that I can get to run, and that I have a body that enables me to run,” it makes it much easier to get out of bed!  I’ve trained myself to think of all the great things about running.  How it feels to be outside when the rest of the world is quiet…, how I’m doing something wonderful for my health, how accomplished I’ll feel when I’m done, and even start to look forward to the personal empowerment or training I’ll get to listen to during the run.

Running a business from home with isn’t always the sunshine and rainbows that we’d like to believe.  It’s often a challenge to pinpoint quiet times for calls.  My son asks me for snacks all day long, so even working 5 minutes uninterrupted is often impossible.  When I start to feel annoyed, I remind myself that there’s going to be a day when they’ll all be in school.  How sad I’ll feel to not have these amazing cuddles in the middle of the day.  I remind myself how fortunate I am that I don’t have to feel the heartache of leaving him for a job, like I did when my girls were born.

What happens in our everyday life can be changed just by the way that we choose to view it.  It’s our choice.  As we have a choice to have gratitude in any situation.

Feel the gratitude in your affirmations

Let’s take our gratitude even a step further.  Next time you’re thinking or saying your affirmations, stop and hold the affirmation in your mind, and FEEL the gratitude for what you are affirming.  The universe will bring more of this affirmation to you.
